BACKGROUND
Ultrasonic Testing utilizes very high frequency sound to inspect engineering materials such as metals,plastics & ceramics. Sound is introduced into a specimen and the reflected sound energy or transmitted sound energy are evaluated to reveal material characterisicts such as cracks,voids, inclusions, laminations, porosity etc.

POTENTIAL APPLICATION.
Ultrasonic examination is used to determine the internal quality of forgings, castings,bar stock, sheet and plate metal etc.
Weld inspection is commonly done using ultrasonics eg. Pipe, vessel and structural welds.

CAPABILITIES
This method is a sensitive means of locating and sizing internal defects and also is commonly used for precise thickness checking of material.
