BACKGROUND Magnet Particle Inspection is a method of locating surface and subsurface discontinuities in ferromagnetic materials such as gas pores, cracking, shrinkage etc. It is portable, generally inexpensive and relatively quick to perform. Its major drawback is that it cannot be used on non magnetic material POTENTIAL APPLICATION Surface & Subsurface inspection of welds, castings and forgings Surface & Subsurface inspection of pipes & tubes. CAPABILITIES This method is a sensitive means of locating small and shallow surface/subsurface cracks and can detect discontinuities that are not open to the surface. |
